Hawley homestead on Sharbot Lake

Hawley homestead on Sharbot Lake

William and Mary Anne’s homestead from 1860’s. At this point I’m not sure when the picture was taken or when their home was built. They married in 1860 and settled on Hawley’s Bay, Sharbot Lake all before the train came through from Kingston to Pembroke…. never quite making it all the way to Pembroke.

I want to write about my family’s time in Sharbot Lake and the big changes in that area through the 1800’s and 1900’s.

At this point in my research it seems that the McGinnis’ and the Spikes, Mary Anne’s family, had been in the area just south of Sharbot Lake a lot longer than William and his family.
